Since 1992, GOCO has directed a portion of Colorado Lottery proceeds to preserve, protect, and enhance the state’s wildlife, park, river, trail, and open space heritage. We’re proud to share our newest annual report, reflecting the impacts of our grant funding during the fiscal year that ran from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023.
This fiscal year, GOCO was proud to invest $72.5 million into 91 partner-led projects in 57 of Colorado’s 64 counties. These efforts helped conserve 82,534 acres of land, restore 975 acres of habitat, create and improve 17 parks and outdoor recreation areas, build or reconstruct 65 miles of trail, employ 267 young people through conservation service corps, and more.
This year also marked the launch of a collaborative effort with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the Department of Natural Resources, and the Governor’s Office to develop Colorado’s Outdoors Strategy, a regionally rooted statewide vision and action plan for conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable recreation. We aim to balance state-level leadership and guidance with regional perspectives that will lead us to north star goals we can rally around as a community.
All that we’ve accomplished is thanks to incredible land trusts, local governments, Colorado Parks & Wildlife, nonprofits, and other organizations in your communities that have contributed their passion and dedication to achieve critical outcomes for Colorado’s people, places, and wildlife.
