Sofia Blanco joined the GOCO communications team as an Events & Marketing Intern in June 2025.

What did you do before you came to GOCO?
I am going into my senior year at the University of Colorado Boulder where I am pursuing a degree in Marketing at the Leeds School of Business, with a minor in Media Studies. At the business school, I am a teaching assistant for Organizational Behavior and a Leeds Peer Mentor. I just wrapped up a semester abroad during which I spent three months in Sydney, Australia and two months in Amsterdam.
What brought you to GOCO?
I am a native Coloradan, so GOCO’s mission of protecting and enhancing Colorado’s nature is very important to me. I align deeply with the values displayed here, and I wanted to be a part of an organization that focuses on environmental conservation. I am also looking forward to learning more about communications and marketing during this internship.

What has been your favorite part of working here so far?
So far, my favorite part of working at GOCO has been seeing all the projects being completed to help protect this awesome state. It gives me hope to see behind the scenes and know a lot of good conservation is going on.
What is your typical day like?
A typical day for me would definitely include a class at Yoga Pod in Boulder, and a long walk somewhere outside. I spend most of my free time with my friends, and I love watching shows and movies with my roommates.
What are some of your favorite things to do outdoors?
I love sunbathing down at the Boulder Creek and going on hikes all around Colorado. You can also frequently find me on a long walk on any outdoor trail. When possible, I also love camping or fishing with my dad.
Where is your favorite place to get outdoors in Colorado?
Steamboat Springs and the surrounding wilderness might be my favorite outdoor places in Colorado. Whether it is a summer spent camping and hiking in the Zirkels, or a winter spent skiing, Steamboat never fails to amaze me.

What is your most memorable outdoors mishap?
My dad and I decided to go fishing at State Forest State Park for Father’s Day a couple years ago. On his back cast while fly fishing, my dad totally hooked my shin. It wasn’t too painful, and we both laughed about it. We thought the irony of my dad getting a fishing hook stuck in my skin on Father’s Day for the first time was pretty hilarious.
What is the coolest wildlife you have spotted outdoors in Colorado?
I feel like I have seen moose close to a million times, but I am shocked every single time. They are so large and pretty, so I love seeing them anytime I am lucky enough to.
