Michelle Schrote joined GOCO this summer as our new senior accountant. Get to know Michelle in this month’s edition of Faces of GOCO.
What did you do before you came to GOCO?
I began my accounting career with a small CPA firm in Dublin, Ohio, where I experienced many different areas of accounting (tax, audit, bookkeeping, payroll, etc.). When my husband and I moved to Colorado, I joined an accounting firm that specializes in government healthcare programs, which is where I was until joining GOCO.
What brought you to GOCO?
The short answer: I wanted my career to have more meaning, more impact and more value. Although accounting is extremely fun (yes, I really do think that), I wanted to apply my skills in the best way possible for society’s benefit. GOCO is where I feel I can do that, and I’ve never felt better about what I’m doing.
What has been your favorite part of working here so far?
The best part about working for GOCO is having the opportunity to witness the impact that GOCO funding has on the local communities.
What is your typical day like?
My days consist of a mix of tasks related to operations and grant funding. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to interact with everyone in our office to ensure the accounting processes are operating as efficiently and effectively as possible.
What are some of your favorite things to do outdoors?
Horseback riding, hiking, swimming, gardening, feeding the animals, playing with our dogs and watching the sunsets.
Where is your favorite place to get outdoors in Colorado?
My husband and I live on a small ranch on the eastern side of the Front Range, so I would have to say our backyard is my favorite place to be outdoors in Colorado.
What is the coolest wildlife you have spotted in Colorado?
Catching glimpses of the bighorn sheep and the marmots in the Rocky Mountain National Park never gets old to me.
